Are you looking for a "Feature" (like a a cemetery, church, crater, harbor, glacier forest, lake or even a school) but you don't remember what state or county it is in, then this is the Website for you. You don't even have to know how to spell the full name of the Feaure. For example: if you are interested in the "Good Samaritan Hospital", here is the search criteria you would use:

Feature Name: Good Sam%
State or Territory: California
Feature Type: hospital

Then press the "Send Query" button. Now you must be patient -- the search may take a while as it is scanning a very large database.

Welcome to FreeBMD FreeBMD is an ongoing project, the aim of which is to transcribe the Civil Registration index of births, marriages and deaths for England and Wales, and to provide free Internet access to the transcribed records.

The recording of births, marriages and deaths was started in 1837 and is one of the most significant resources for genealogical research. The transcribing of the records is carried out by teams of dedicated volunteers and contains index information for the period 1837-1983.
